Meet Srulik
We first met Srulik at a bunkhouse in Idaho; as team athletes, he and Erik were both running the Race the Rocks 50K event put on by UltrAspire during the summer of 2025. All of us being from the east coast, once introduced, immediately began chatting about east coast running and our tales of flying to this event - Srulik had boarded his flight with a cooler full of bolognese pasta, ready to satisfy those post-run cravings.
Having grown up in Brooklyn, NY, Srulik spent several years making wine in central California before returning to his home borough, where he continues to run either solo or with friends around their cityscape. At an early age, Srulik suffered from a spinal injury which left him unable to do any activity without severe pain. Despite doctors predictions, and with 10-years of physical therapy later, Srulik went for a freedive in the Red Sea and experienced a life-changing epiphany. Overwhelmed with the desire to take on the impossible, he began running daily - aiming for zero days off while remaining injury-free.
At that time, his objective was to run until reaching the circumference of the earth - an astounding 24,901-miles! Wasting no time, the following day he laced up sneakers and began his streak with 5.5-miles. That was back in 2019; ever since that moment, Srulik has been running daily. After 11.5-months of commitment to a dream, the bar was upped even further by running at least a half marathon (13.1-miles) daily - and has not let up yet, and is currently logging 18-miles daily.
As Srulik continues this long-term goal, he is also looking forward to completing two 100-mile ultra marathons this year - but his ultimate desire is to help (crewing and pacing) several close friends as they take on their toughest races yet - he believes the support and ability of the running community to give back to one another is what truly makes it such a special group to be apart of - and we could not agree more.
While running the streets of Brooklyn is where Srulik currently finds himself, he also really enjoys exploring and running in the Galilean Mountains of northern Isreal, a special place where he can find a sense of inner peace while roaming the hills and trails. But, as time allows, our friend is looking forward to adventures in Morocco, Lebanon, Iran and Ethiopia - with the great state of Alaska also topping his to-do list.
For anyone just getting started on their path of running or hiking, Srulik has great advise to not rush into mileage too fast; take baby steps and just enjoy the process of running and exploring all that nature has to offer. In addition to gradually building mileage, he recommends weekly mobility and strength training to ensure you can enjoy running and getting outdoors for years to come.
When confronted with the question of what new runners or hikers should bring with them - “anything from UltrAspire.com would be my first choice”; with a hydration pack or running vest fit for every race or length of time spent running in the mountains, UltrAspire offers hydration solutions as well as a plethora of lighting options with remote battery packs, red LED lighting, and everything from head lamps to waist lamps. A great choice!
We hope to see you out on the trails (or Brooklyn sidewalks) soon again, Srulik!
